Thoughts on ‘La Marseillaise’, the greatest national anthem ever written, and La France, belle et eternelle. July 14, 2011.

Today the 14 July 2011 is Bastille Day in France.

Today the French will celebrate the storming of the Bastille which occurred in Paris on the morning of 14 July 1789. The medieval fortress and prison in Paris known as the Bastille represented royal authority in the centre of Paris,  its fall was the flashpoint of the French Revolution.

Our article today is a brief history of what the storming of the Bastille actually meant and about the song which the revolutionary soldiers sang in the streets of Paris, that became the French National Anthem, ‘La Marseillaise’
