The stamp of approval. U.S. Postal Service recognizes the USS Constitution, the world’s oldest floating commissioned naval vessel.

In today’s article Dr Jeffrey Lant, CEO Worldprofit, talks about the oldest surviving commissioned naval ship, a ship now to be commemorated in a US Postage Stamp, just in time for the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.

This famous ship helped to defeat the British and destroyed many famous British naval ships taking part in that war.

Like many national treasures from many countries around the world this ship was almost lost forever when the U.S. Naval Department announced plans to decommission and break her up, until one man stepped in and started a campaign to save her in 1830. What is surprising is that this date is not that long after she was so victorious in the War of 1812.
