We don’t get much good news coming out of Afghanistan these days, even in the UK. Most of the news reports you hear about are usually reporting another death of a ‘too young’ gallant soldier, dying in the service of his country.
Like most people I do not like hearing or reading news of another death in war torn countries, but for me the reasons are not just about the fact that another soldier has been killed. For me, whichever side the deaths occur on, it just perpetuates the negativity surrounding war and only serves to bring about more war. Deaths in any war stir up the feelings of people on both sides into wanting to do something about it and unfortunately, human nature being what it is, this usually means revenge in some form or another, which only leads to more killing. It’s a vicious circle, which unless something is done to stop the killing will go on and on until there is no-one left to fight. Simply killing soldiers or insurgents or terrorists will never resolve the issues that exist between each side, those differences will always exist and we should be doing more to find ways for all sides to live together in peace.
That’s why Today’s article by Dr Jeffrey Lant, CEO Worldprofit, is a welcome and refreshing change in the talk of war. It talks about one of the more positive things to have come from the war in Afganistan, the honoring of a brave young man, whose actions in the face of unbelievable odds, kept him and others alive.
