To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start reviving those creative writing skills and start to get the message out about your website or product.
With modern communication technologies, such as the internet, the popularity of information-based marketing has become paramount to your success.
Providing information is one of the oldest and most effective techniques, used for centuries in spoken and written form, to get potential customers to view your wares and generate sales. Story tellers, town criers and heralds would proclaim information from market squares, eventually information would be written down in the form of letters, news sheets, pamphlets, posters and flyers and distributed via the same market squares. As more people were able to read, this information was collected together into books and sold to anyone who was interested in the information.
With the advent of the internet, providing information has become even easier and more readily available and if used correctly is a valuable source of getting targeted prospects to your sites and converting them into buyers.
This is why article writing, submissions and publications are also getting popular. Writing articles filled with information about your subject, product or website, is the perfect way to get your message out to more people and thereby generate traffic back to your website.
But simply writing those articles is not enough. You need to distribute them far and wide, to be able to generate the traffic and potential customers you want, and need, to generate more sales and profits.
There are already many tools that you can use to make the process of distributing your articles easy. Though this is invaluable in getting the content more exposure, this is only half of the story. The process starts with the actual writing of those articles in the first place
Let us examine the common mistakes that some people make before submitting their contents to article directories and the solutions to getting it right:
1. Confusing the reason to promote the articles with the reason to write them.
When writing articles, there are three key benefits as to why you are promoting them; Branding, Lead generation and Promotion, which are all part of your optimization efforts.
But there is only one reason why you write an article, and that is to inform your audience. You must write your articles with your audience in mind. Your audience are your potential customers, so you must write content that they will be interested enough to read. If the article is not focused on this primary and most important purpose, it will fail to achieve the three promotional benefits because no one will be interested in reading them.
You need to figure out first how to get people to read what is in your article, then make them click on your resource box. You can achieve this by producing better contents, focused on what your audience or potential customers are looking for and want to read.
2. Failing to maximize the promotional opportunities of article marketing.
You may know already that your articles can help you generate additional links back to your site. This is because when you post your articles to content sites and article directories, it will include your resource box, containing a link to your website. But do you know that you can get more visitors and better search engine results from that same articles?
Keywords are still one of the most important factors that search engines look for in your website content, and this includes your articles. You need to include keywords at strategic places throughout your articles, although you must also be sure not to overdo them.
Anchor texts are also an effective method by which you can get the search engines to find and rank your website. Anchor texts are words or phrases that contain a URL link back to your website. You will need to make sure the content site allows anchor text, as some directories are not able to support this.
Another point to remember is that is not only about the links back to your site. Part of doing well in your article marketing efforts is getting picked up by publishers with a large number of audiences and gaining the ability of leveraging other brands because of the quality of your work. Better search engine results also are great benefits. Again this is achieved by writing quality content that people want to read.
But these things alone do not put more money in your pocket. There are other factors that can turn your article marketing efforts into an opportunity that can boost your earnings, and not just increase the number of visitors to your site.
Start out with a plan and see to it that your article will serve the function that you intended it to have. Once again, the key is in writing quality content people want to read.
3. Publishing content that does not help your readers.
This third mistake is possibly the most common mistake and is seen all over the internet, not just in articles and content but also in searches and websites in general.
How many times have you searched for a specific term or subject, only to find that the websites found, have nothing to do with what you searched for, or do not contain the specific information or product you were looking for. The webmaster has included content and keywords in his or her article or website simply to generate visitors. This type of marketing may increase you traffic but certainly does not increase your sales and profits.
Possibly in the process of writing articles, you are thinking that all you want is links back to your site. As we’ve already said this will generate visitors, and any visitors it can generate are very welcome. But unless your articles and content help your readers, they will not generate sales. We’ll say it once again, the key is to write quality content that people want to read.
4. Writing articles that content sites and directories do not want.
The fourth mistake is the mistake that will make or break your article marketing efforst.
Guess what? Not all content sites and directories are going to accept your content automatically. Frequently, they have some guidelines and specifications on the articles that they are accepting.
You can double the number of sites you can submit to by writing articles that the directories want to share with other people. All it takes is one publisher with a hundred thousand readers to increase your potential audience overnight.
You must write articles that publishers want in their publications and websites, if you want your article marketing to work the most effective way for you. And once again this comes back to what your potential customers want to read.
You need to research what sort of articles a particular directory usually publish, by visiting that directory, and then write your articles accordingly. The content may be the same but may need to be written in a certain way to meet the directory guidelines. Make sure you follow the guidelines for each directory to get the maximum number of articles published.
5 Writing articles with inaccuracies, poor grammar and spelling.
Again this is something that is becoming more common on the internet and is a result of failing education and the increase in youth culture. It is often reported that school leavers are not knowledgeable about common subjects and are unable to read or write properly due to lack of proper education in these topics and skills. Youth culture means that more school leavers read and write in a form of shorthand, used to Text and Tweet. They rarely read books anymore and hence only talk about what they ‘know’, and decry anything else as rubbish or not important.
When writing articles for publishing on the internet it is all the more important that you obey the standard guidelines. Thoroughly research your topic, make sure you write to be read, not as you would speak, spell check everything and even consider hiring a writer to produce a good content on your behalf, if you are not confident of your own ability. Or at least get someone else to review what you have written before you publish to content sites.
It’s up to you and only you.
In the end, it is all really a matter of choice on your part. You can start getting a little exposure from increased links back but on a very basic level, by writing poorly written articles that do not help your potential customers and don’t get read often. Or you can enjoy massive exposure from a little extra time and effort by writing quality articles and content, that people want to read and do read.
It will be your choice, Make sure you make the right one, if you really want to increase your earnings.
