If you are established internet marketer, then hopefully you will already know the answer to that question, but if you are just starting out and have just put up your first website, then this article should help you understand Adsense better.
As a new internet marketer you’ve possibly heard other marketers or even read articles about Adsense and wondered what it is all about. The idea of placing a little code on your website and then sitting back, waiting for the profits to roll in probably appeals to you, but be warned it is not quite as simple as that.
The concept behind Adsense is however really simple. The publisher or the webmaster inserts some java script code into the code of their website page. Each time the page is accessed, the java script will pull advertisements from the Adsense program based on the keyword criteria for that page. The ads that are targeted should therefore be related to the content that is contained on the web page serving the ad. If a visitor clicks on an advertisement, the webmaster serving the ad earns a portion of the money that the advertiser is paying the search engine for the click. This payment can range from a few cents to a few dollars per click depending on the advertising budget set by the advertiser.
The search engine, which in the case of Adsense is Google, handles all the tracking and payments, providing an easy way for webmasters to display content-sensitive and targeted ads without having the hassle to solicit advertisers, collect funds, monitor the clicks and statistics which could be a time-consuming task in itself.
Obviously with such small amounts being paid for each click, you are not going to become millionaires overnight, but with careful consideration given to the right keywords to target, alongside good quality website content, if you can maximise your traffic and visitors, Adsense can provide a decent extra earning potential to your website.
No matter what your website topic or niche is, you should not have any difficulty displaying the right targeted Adsense adverts on your website. It seems that there is never a shortage of suitable advertisers in almost any niche in the program from which the search engine pulls the Adsense ads.
So now we know what Adsense is and can do, let’s look at why it essential for content websites.
Optimizing Placement and Appearance
The first reason why Adsense is essential for content sites is because it has already come a long way in understanding the needs of publishers and webmasters.
Together with its continuous progression is the appearance of a more advanced system that allows full ad customization. Webmasters are given the chance to choose from many different types of text ad formats to better complement their website and fit the ads into their webpage layout.
By optimizing the placement and appearance of the ads being delivered by Adsense, website owners can increase the possibility of more click-throughs from visitors who may or may not be aware of what they are clicking on. Adverts can be formatted in such a way, so that they don’t necessarily look like an advert. They can be integrated into your content, so that they appeal to your visitors and make them take that next step to click on the advert and find out more. This way the advertisers will get their content read more often and will potentially make more profit in the process.
Real Time Tracking and Reporting
The second reason is the ability of the Adsense publishers to track not only how their sites are progressing but also the earnings based on webmaster-defined channels.
With any form of online advertising, it is essential to know how well any specific advert is performing, how many views the advert is receiving, how many clicks, how many sales it is generating etc.
Recent improvements in how search engines deliver search results gives webmasters the capability to monitor how their ads are performing using customizable reports that have the capacity to detail page impressions, clicks and click-through rates. Webmasters and publishers can now track specific ad formats, colours and pages within a website.
In this way trends are easily spotted. An advert in a specific place on the page, in a specific colour and format may do better if it was placed in a different position, used a different colour or format.
With the real-time reporting at hand, the effectiveness of any changes made can be assessed easily and quickly. In a very short time it is easy to sort out the best adverts your visitors are making the most clicks on.
Remember each click will be generating cash for you; the publisher, so even when you are testing you are still earning. Your aim is to increase the number of clicks with each change. The changing demands will still be met while generating cash for the webmasters and publishers. More flexible tools are also available, allowing webmasters to group web pages by URL, domain, ad type or category, which will provide them some accurate insight on which pages, ads and domains are performing best.
Targeted Adverts on Targeted Websites
The last and final reason why Adsense is essential for content sites is that the advertisers have realized the benefits associated with having their ads served on targeted websites.
By having their ads displayed on websites that are related to the product or service they are advertising, they are increasing the possibility that a prospective web surfer will have an interest in their product and services.
Adsense is all about targeted content, the more targeted your content is, the more targeted the search engines’ ads will be.
As a website owner you can increase your Adsense clicks and earnings by focusing on your site content and how best to maintain the information you offer, rather than the cash that the ads will generate for you. Because of the content and its constant maintenance, the effectiveness of the ads displayed on your website by Adsense will be at its best.
As opposed to those who are not using Adsense in their websites, you are given the option of having other people do some of your content for you, giving you the benefit of having a successful and money-generating website.
There was a time when people were not yet aware of the money to be achieved from advertisements. The cash generation only came into existence when webmasters and publishers realized how they could make Adsense be that generator. In those days, the content was the most important factor that was taken quite seriously.
Whilst that is still the case, the added incentive of making some income from that content, is now just as important and a good reason why using Adsense on your website is essential to your success.
If you are new to Adsense and want to learn how to get the most out of using it, one of the best guides I’ve ever read is The AdSense Code by Joel Comm. You can buy it from Amazon right now.
