In the ideal world of affiliate marketing you are not required to deal with customers, refunds, product development, support and maintenance.
Some people would even tell you that you do not need to own your own website, and in an ideal world they are probably correct.
Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways of launching into an online business and earning more profits.
But in reality only some of those things are true. To make a name for yourself and be even more successful in affiliate marketing, you do need your own website, because you need to set yourself apart from other affiliates, who all trying to sell the same products or services. If not one of the affiliates for a product had their own website, they would all be sending traffic to the same vendor website and ultimately most affiliates would not get a sale.
If you want to increase your earnings, you should also consider dealing with the customers and in particular offering some form of review, training or support for the product you are promoting. If you have purchased the product yourself, you will be able to offer advice to your customers about how to use the product. They in turn will come to trust you and are more likely to purchase through your affiliate link on the next product you decide to promote.

Here are some powerful tips on how to boost your affiliate commissions overnight.
1. Know the best program and products to promote.
Obviously, you would want to promote a program that will enable you to achieve the greatest profits in the shortest possible time.
There are several factors to consider when selecting such a program.
- Choose the ones that have a generous commission structure.
- Have products that fit in with your target audience.
- Have a track record of high sales on previous products
- Have a solid track record of paying their affiliates easily and on time.
There are thousands of affiliate programs online which means you can afford to shop around for the best programs and products to promote.
You want to select the best to avoid losing your advertising dollars. If you cannot earn more than your investment in a particular program, dump that program and keep looking for better ones.
2. Write free reports or short ebooks to distribute from your own site.
There is a great possibility that you are competing with hundreds of other affiliates that are all promoting the same program. If you start writing short reports related to the product you are promoting, you will be able to distinguish yourself from the other affiliates.
In the reports, provide some valuable information for free. If possible, add some recommendations about the product. By using reports and ebooks, you get credibility. Customers will see that you are knowledgeable in the product or niche and they will be enticed to try out what you are offering.

Rather than offer a list of bonuses as long as your arm, which will probably never even get read, offer only a few, high quality, well written reports or ebooks, that your customers are more likely to read and get some benefit from. 3. Collect and save the email addresses of those who download your free ebooks.
It is a known fact that people rarely make a purchase on the first solicitation. You may need to send out your message more than six times to make a sale.
This is the simple reason why you should collect the contact information of those who downloaded your reports and ebooks. You can make follow-ups on these contacts to remind them to make a purchase from you.
To do this effectively you should get the contact information of a prospect before sending them to the vendor’s website and this is where your own website comes into play. Keep in mind that you are providing free advertisement for the product owners. You get paid only when you make a sale. If you send prospects directly to the vendors website, chances are they would be lost to you forever.
Getting your prospects names and email addresses also means that you can always send other marketing messages to them for other products, to be able to earn an ongoing commission instead of a one-time sale only.
4. Publish an online newsletter or Ezine.
It is always best to recommend a product to someone you know rather than trying to sell to a complete stranger. This is the purpose behind publishing your own newsletter. This also allows you to develop a relationship based on trust with your subscribers.
This strategy is a delicate balance between providing useful information alongside a sales pitch. If all you send to your subscribers are sales pitches, then you will quickly lose subscribers. But if you write informative editorials, that provide useful information about the products you promote or the niche you are in, then you will be able to build a sense of reciprocity in your readers that may lead them to support you by buying the products you promote.
5. Write strong Pay Per Click ads.
PPC search engine traffic is the most effective means of advertising online. You must be careful to set yourself an affordable budget before you start and then stick to it, otherwise PPC can very quickly drain away all the profits you get from the extra sales, you can generate.
As an affiliate, you can make an income just by efficiently managing PPC campaigns such as Google AdWords and Overture. You should monitor your campaigns to see which ads are more effective and which ones to dispose of, tweaking the good ones to try to make them even better at converting prospects into customers.
6. Ask for higher than normal commissions from merchants.
This is a delicate issue to handle effectively. Don’t even bother to ask, if you are new to affiliate marketing and don’t have any track record to offer as proof of your expertise at marketing.
If you have already successfully marketed a vendors product or service and can show higher than average results, you could try and approach the merchant and negotiate a higher percentage commission for your sales.
If the merchant is smart, he or she will likely grant your request rather than lose a valuable asset in you. Keep in mind that you are a zero-risk investment to your merchant; so do not be shy about requesting for additional commissions, if you can justify your request.
The key is to be reasonable about how much you request. Remember it is a negotiation, so expect to have to ‘negotiate’ if your request is not met with immediate acceptance.
